Ailyn Pérez returns to Staatsoper Hamburg as the title role of Puccini’s Tosca on March 16, 19, 21 & 27. This gripping operatic masterpiece, emblematic of the Italian verismo movement, unfolds as a riveting tale of love, jealousy, and political intrigue set in 1800s Rome. Pérez, who garnered critical acclaim for her portrayal when she made her debut as Tosca in 2021 at San Francisco Chronicle, embodies the role with remarkable finesse, as praised by the San Francisco Chronicle:

“Soprano Ailyn Pérez, in voice and bearing, was the very embodiment of it in the title role. […] Pérez, making her role debut, was the big story. Looking like a valentine in her pinkish red gown, she was pert and playfully flirty early on, tickling her painter lover and putting on jealous airs, her voice buoyant and bright. In her fateful second-act encounter with Scarpia, she took on a stature at once meditative (in a dreamily slow and transfixing “Vissi d’arte”) and fiercely, rawly determined.”

Under the baton of Yoel Gamzou, Pérez is joined by an outstanding cast, including Adam Smith as Cavaradossi, Franco Vassallo as Scarpia, Liam James Karai as Angelotti, David Minseok Kang as Sagrestano, Andrew Dickinson as Spoletta, and Grzegorz Pelutis as Sciarrone.
