It was announced today that American soprano Ailyn Pérez will make her house debut at Houston Grand Opera this fall as Desdemona in Verdi’s Otello. The performances, which open the HGO season on october 24 and run through November 7, also will serve as Pérez’s role debut as one of the most iconic characters in the Verdi repertoire. New Zealand-born tenor Simon O’Neill tackles the formidable title role, while Italian baritone Marco Vratogna revisits Iago, the notoriously despicable schemer who aims to knock Otello from power. HGO Music and Artistic Director Patrick Summers leads the run from the pit.
