On November 17th, soprano Ailyn Pérez joined a star-studded lineup of today’s biggest opera stars at the annual Richard Tucker Gala at Avery Fisher Hall in New York City. This year’s Gala honored Tucker’s 100th birthday and featured such names as Renée Fleming, Angela Meade, Joyce DiDonato, and Matthew Polenzani. Musical America praised Pérez’s “exquisite pianissimos” in her rendition of “Depuis le jour” from Charpentier’s Louise, and the New York Times hailed Pérez’s “sassy” and “deliciously comic” performance of “Esulti pur la barbara” from L’Elisir d’Amore. The review went on to say that the performance “revealed a perfect grasp of comic timing in acting and singing.”
