Tomorrow, September 24, Ailyn Pérez returns to the Royal Opera, stepping into the title role in Puccini’s Tosca. It’s a role Pérez has sung to great international acclaim at Staatsoper Berlin, Staatsoper Hamburg, the National Arts Centre Ottawa, Fondazione Petruzzelli, and San Francisco Opera, where her debut performance was praised by the San Francisco Chronicle as “the very embodiment of it in the title role.”
Pérez made her Royal Opera debut in Manon 2014. Since then, she has returned to Covent Garden in a variety of acclaimed roles, including Liù in Turandot, Violetta in La traviata, Micaela in Carmen, and Mimì in La bohème.
Led by Royal Opera music director Jakub Hrůša, Pérez will join an all-star cast in Oliver Mears’ gripping new production. Freddie De Tommaso sings Mario Cavaradossi, with Gerald Finley as Baron Scarpia, Ossian Huskinson as Angelotti, and Alessandro Corbelli as the Sacristan.
