Beginning November 11, Ailyn Pérez will sing the title role of Massenet’s Thaïs at The Metropolitan Opera. This momentous occasion marks Ms. Pérez’ greatly anticipated debut in the role, as the first Latina artist to star as the doomed courtesan on The Met stage. Ailyn has already been heralded worldwide for her “dazzling” (Opera News) interpretations of another Massenet title role, in the composer’s Manon.
The vibrant cast includes Gerald Finley as Athanaël and Jean-François Borras as Nicias, with all performances conducted by Maestro Emmanuel Villaume. The production, created by John Cox, features sumptuous costumes by venerated fashion designer Christian Lacroix. Performances take place November 11, 15, 18, 22 & 25; tune in on Saturday, November 11 for a matinee broadcast streamed live online via MetOpera.org.
