Ailyn Pérez returns to the Bayerische Staatsoper on May 22, 25, and 29, June 1, 4, 8, and 12, and July 9, and 12, singing the doomed Nedda in Leoncavallo’s thrilling play-within-a-play, Pagliacci. Pérez has previously sung the iconic role at the Lyric Opera of Chicago and Dutch National Opera, where Bachtrack praised her performance, saying, “Besides great personal charm, she had the ideal voice for the role, fleet and silvery in the ballad and becoming fuller and juicier at dramatic climaxes.”
Presented as a double bill with Mascagni’s Cavalleria rusticana, Pérez joins an exciting all-star cast for Francesco Micheli’s production, including Jonas Kaufman and Riccardo Massi as Canio, Wolfgang Koch as Tonio, Thomas Mole and Andrzej Filończyk as Silvio, and Granite Musliu as Beppe. In Cavalleria rusticana, Yulia Matochkina and Ekaterina Semenchuk sing Santuzza, Ivan Gyngazov and Jonathan Tetelman sing Turiddu, Rosalind Plowright sings Lucia, and Wolfgang Koch sings Alfio. Daniele Rustioni and Andrea Battistoni lead from the podium.
