Lauded as “an ideal Violetta,” Ailyn Pérez returns to Opernhaus Zürich in the lead role as Violetta in Verdi’s La traviata. From July 6-15, Pérez will perform with a star-studded cast including Benjamin Bernheim as Alfredo and Quinn Kelsey as Giorgio Germont. General music director Fabio Luisi will conduct the Zürich Philharmonia in David Hermann’s production about a modern high-class escort girl who leaves her hedonistic lifestyle to commit to her love, all the while society attempts to pull their love apart until her last breath. Previously headlining a new production of La traviata at Zürich Opera in 2014-15, Pérez spoke with the Latin Post about her connection to Violetta Valéry:
“It’s the music and I know I can relate to these characters. There was an instinct and when I go through these scenes, I feel. I have a huge amount of emotion that I feel from the combination of the music, the words and the story. I want to be a part of telling it and that’s what I want to be a part of.” (Latin Post)
