Since her thrilling mid-performance fill in as Violetta during the Royal Opera House’s tour of Japan in 2010, the title role in Verdi’s La Traviata has been one of Ailyn Pérez’s calling card roles. The American soprano’s 2013-14 season sees a return to the role in four productions. Pérez begins her fall season in September in Johannes Erath’s production of La traviata at Hamburg State Opera, in which she starred earlier this year for the debut performances. She then brings her celebrated portrayal to Oviedo, Spain in October, followed by three performances, including a special New Year’s Eve show, at Munich’s Bavarian State Opera. Pérez then heads to London for five performances as Violetta in May, and then the two fly to San Francisco for four July performances as Verdi’s ill-fated lovers.
